Labour Party leader Keir Starmer was officially appointed on Friday as the United Kingdom's 58th acting prime minister upon accepting a formal request from King Charles III to form a government, Ednews reports.
As of now, Starmer's Labour Party secured 412 seats in the House of Commons, surpassing the required majority threshold of 326 seats in the general election held on July 4. Starmer took over from Rishi Sunak, who held the position for two years.
The Labour leader is due to make his first speech outside 10 Downing Street later this afternoon.
