Starting from November 1, every Ukrainian citizen can obtain an electronic ID card
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine issued an order launching an all-out issuance of ID cards from November 1st, the governmental online portal says.
New electronic IDs can replace old paper book-style passports, which are not available for obtaining from November 1st but still can be used.
The ID cards with non-contact chips were first introduced in Ukraine in January 2016 for 16-years olds obtaining their passports for the first time. They are fully compatible with the EU standards.
From October 1st, ID cards are issued for citizens acquiring the age of 14.
Also, the biometric passports for traveling abroad were introduced in Ukraine in January 2015 in order to meet the EU requirements for acquiring visa-free regime.
