On January 28, First Secretary of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Azerbaijan Bahram Gaipov and Embassy Attache Oybek Akramov visited the office of the International Eurasia Press Fund and the editorial office of the Eurasia Diary website. At the meeting with the IEPF President Umud Mirzayev and the editor-in-chief of the website, the prospects for establishing useful cooperation between the IEPF, the Eurasia Diary website and the Embassy were discussed.
U.Mirzayev mentioned that the International Eurasia Press Fund has organised visits of foreign journalists to Karabakh for the last 30 years. He stressed the visits of Uzbek journalists to the frontline, noting that relations between the two sides still continues today.
Umud Mirzayev noted the IEPF's close cooperation with the International Peace Bureau as well as stressing the importance of cooperation between local NGOs and international organisations.
First Secretary of the Embassy Bahram Gaipov stressed that the relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan as a brotherly country have a historical past and said that the two countries have more similarities in culture, language and traditions. He said that the relations established by the late Presidents of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan Islam Karimov and Heydar Aliyev are currently being carried on by Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Ilham Aliyev. Gaipov also reminded that the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Uzbekistan is expected.
The First Secretary said that economic measures were planned between the two countries. Gaipov said that Uzbekistan is the most populous country in Central Asia with 34.5 million. According to him, Central Asia and the Caucasus are very dynamic regions in terms of information. He praised the interviews of the President of Azerbaijan to foreign media during the 44-day war. Gaipov said that the embassy organised press tours, cultural ties, tourist trips, political events and the tradition will be continued.
The official of the embassy stressed the importance of developing friendly and fraternal relations, strengthening socio-humanitarian and cultural ties between the Turkic-speaking countries of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. He said that in today's historical reality, it is very important to increase the exchange of information among people of the same nation as well as bringing to the attention of the world community what is happening in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, information was provided about the Eurasia Dairy Analytical Information Portal, which is part of the Eurasia Media Network. It was noted that the Uzbek historian and publicist Shohrat Barlas is the representative of the Eurasia Diary in Central Asia.
The sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interests.
