Liverpool travel to Spain for the first leg of their semi-final on Wednesday with Van Dijk recently awarded the PFA Player of the Year trophy.
Fans are starting to believe the defender could even be in with a shout of winning the Ballon d’Or.
Currently held by Luka Modric, the prestigious honour had been shared between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for the preceding 10 years.
Van Dijk, however, does not think he will be in the reckoning for the 2019 award, describing those that do win it as otherworldly.
That could worry Liverpool fans in the build up to the Champions League clash with Van Dijk the man they hope will stop Messi and co from romping to another final.
“Nah, that’s not something that’s on my mind at all,” Van Dijk replied when asked about winning the Ballon d’Or at the end of the year.
“There are currently players walking around in this football world that are out of this world basically, and they’ve been doing it for many years.
“I’m very happy how I perform at the moment, how consistent I’m performing, that I’m fit as well.
