Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich chooses Barcelona star to replace Eden Hazard

CHELSEA are reportedly looking to replace Eden Hazard with Barcelona flop Phillipe Coutinho, should their transfer ban be revoked.

The Blues are braced to lose their star man this summer as Real Madrid look set to finally land Hazard in the coming months.

Los Blancos are likely to splash around £100m on the Belgian, who has repeatedly flirted with a move to the Spanish capital.

In return, Cadena Ser are reporting Roman Abramovich will sanction a whopping bid for Barcelona star Coutinho as a like-for-like replacement.

The Brazilian has flopped since joining the Catalan outfit back in January 2018.

And Coutinho's misery was compounded in midweek as Barca blew a 3-0 aggregate lead to crash out of the Champions League to his former side Liverpool.

The former Anfield favourite has been heavily criticised by his own fans and the Spanish media alike.

But Chelsea could offer Coutinho a much-needed escape route and have been the favourites to land the former Premier League ace in recent months.

That being said, the Blues will first need to have their transfer ban lifted.

Chelsea continue to appeal against the decision which will see them unable to register new players until next summer.

But west London chiefs are hopeful the ban will be lifted and they will be free to sign a replacement for Hazard should he leave before the start of next season.

Chelsea fans are hopeful the winger decides to sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

But manager Maurizio Sarri admits it is pointless trying to keep Hazard at the club against his will.

“If Hazard is thinking that the history here is finished, then in his mind it is finished," he said after Thursday's Europa League semi-final win.

"I can try to speak to him but it is not easy.

“It’s not easy because of course I want Hazard.

"But I want Hazard with a very high level of motivation.”
