Manchester United and Barcelona are both keen to sign De Ligt from Ajax, with the 19-year-old’s stock at an all-time high.
The Holland international, who is poised to start for his country against England in the Nations League semi-finals next month, has enjoyed a remarkable campaign.
The Manchester United and Barcelona target helped Ajax win the Eredivisie title - as well as driving his side to the last four of the Champions League.
But journalist Sid Lowe has claimed Barcelona are NO LONGER confident of signing the youngster.
And that means he could be on his way to United instead.
“A week ago, Barcelona were very confident that De Ligt would come there,” he told the Guardian's football weekly podcast.
“They are much less confident now.
“Now I must admit I don’t know what’s happened in the meantime but I imagine it’s an enormous truckload of cash having been driven round a house by his agent, who just happens to be Mino Raiola.
