Unai Emery confident Arsenal to see best of Nicolas Pepe after Europa League heroics

Arsenal boss Unai Emery believes Nicolas Pepe can push on after scoring two fantastic Europa League goals.

Arsenal were rescued by substitute Nicolas Pepe on Thursday night after he scored two stunning free-kicks in the closing movements of the game against Vitoria Guimaraes in the Europa League.

And boss Unai Emery thinks this game could be a turning point for the 24-year-old at the club.

"On the pitch he is feeling better,” Emery said about Pepe.

"On Thursday to play 20 minutes, scoring two goals and help us win the game is important for him and for us.

"Hopefully in training on Saturday and in the game on Sunday he can keep moving ahead."

Arsenal won the Europa League clash 3-2 at the Emirates and in the process maintained their position at the top of Group F. They also extended their winning streak in the competition to three straight games.

Pepe left Lille and signed for the north London club this summer in a deal worth £72million.

However, the young winger has only managed to reproduce moments of his form that saw him score 22 goals and provide 11 assists for the Ligue 1 in all competitions last season.

And while Emery believes the Ivory Coast international has the talents to succeed in the Premier League, he is weary of putting to much pressure on his player too soon.

"He needs to take the confidence from training,” said Emery.

"He needs to feel comfortable with his team-mates and also feel comfortable living in London with his family.

"We cannot speak too much into the future. We need to focus about the near-future.
"He has the quality, he has good speed and he is a humble man which is the first important characteristic to improve with us."

The two free-kicks against Vitoria Guimaraes takes Pepe’s goal tally to three from 12 appearances in all competitions this season.

Next up for Arsenal is Crystal Palace, with the two teams due to meet at the Emirates on Sunday.
