The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced on Friday it picked former Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti to be the national team's next head coach.
Spalletti, who left Napoli in May, will assume the role on September 1. "The national team needed a great coach and I am very happy that he has accepted the leadership of the Azzurri. His enthusiasm and expertise will be crucial for the challenges that await Italy in the coming months," FIGC President Gabriele Gravina stated.
The appointment comes after Roberto Mancini, who led the national team since 2018, quit on Sunday.
