Tennis player Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus managed to snatch a win on Wednesday in a match against Qinwen Zheng of China, beating her 6-1, 6-4, and going through to the US Open Tennis Championships semi-finals.
Although the second seed breezed through the first set, she had to put some more effort into gaining the lead in the second set, which she ultimately took. She will now have a chance to win her second-ever Grand Slam title. Before that, she will first have to face either Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic or Madison Keys of the United States in the semi-finals.
After current world No. 1, Iga Swiatek of Poland, lost in the round of 16, Sabalenka will be replacing her as the best female tennis player on the ATP list regardless of her further performance in this tournament. This will be Sabalenka's first time reaching the top ranking.
