Italy secured their first-ever Olympic gold in women's volleyball with a dominant win over the United States at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Sunday.
The Italians claimed victory in straight sets, 25-18, 25-20, 25-17, in front of a lively crowd at South Paris Arena. Veteran Monica De Gennaro, a four-time Olympian, was celebrated by her teammates, who tossed her into the air after the final whistle. Paola Egonu led the charge with 22 points, sealing the historic win for Italy.
The US settled for silver, while Brazil took home the bronze.
