Italy’s 5-Star Movement denied on Wednesday that the 5-Star Movement, one of the two parties in the ruling coalition, was seeking the resignation of Economy Minister Giovanni Tria.
Italy’s state news agency Ansa had previously reported that 5-Star would seek Tria’s resignation if he does not approve 10 billion euros in next year’s budget to create a universal income for the poor, which is the movement’s flagship policy promise.
“That 5-Star is putting pressure on minister Tria is unfounded, as is any reference to (requesting) his possible resignation” 5-Star said in a statement.
