Marziyya Vakilova-Mardaliyeva (Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan) delivered the speech about public awareness for people with disabilities.
"Azerbaijan believes that public awareness can change the negative attitudes against disabled people in the positive recognition of their skills. In this regard, different awareness campaigns have been launched in my country."
She noted that in recent years, substantial work has been initiated to improve the social protection of persons with disabilities including measures for integration and rehabilitation and inclusive education.
The law on rights of persons with disabilities have been improved on may 31st of last year taking into account recommendation by NHGRI and civil society and also revised by UN CRPD public council comprising of the representative of 15 civil society organizations including seven NGOs representing persons with disabilities was also actively involved in the process of drafting of this law.
"In your ICT based service system of disability assessment which is a system of medical and social expertise and rehabilitation developed and established another vision was recognized as an efficient and transparent working mechanism and reccommended by UN for sharing aplication in the firm work of south cooperation taking the opportunity let me stress that we welcome the decision of UN Secretary general to promote system wide action plan on disability inclusion accross all pillars of UN work."
"Azerbaijan will contiue supporting all efforts to this end," Marziyya Vakilova-Mardaliyeva concluded the speech.
