Within the framework of the 40th Regular Session of the UN Human Rights Council, the President of the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) Umud Mirzayev met with Executive Director of the Geneva Centre for the Advancement of Human Rights and Global Dialogue Idriss Jazairy.
The opportunities for bilateral cooperation were discussed during the meeting, Eurasia Diary reports.
Umud Mirzayev informed about the violation of the rights of more than a million refugees and IDPs as a result of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Moreover, he spoke about the environmental problems and damage of socio-economic infrastructure as a result of the conflict and Armenian occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani territory.
I. Jazairy praised the work done by the head of the state President Ilham Aliyev in development of Azerbaijan, as well as in the promotion of inter-cultural dialogue and tolerance, the struggle against Islamophobia. He said that he strongly condemns ethnic, religious and national conflicts.
Jazairy noted that he is working on the promotion of tolerance and intercultural dialogue and IEPF can contribute in this direction.
At the end of the meeting, the sides expressed the willingness to sign a Memorandum of Understanding during the visit of Jazairy to Baku, to establish future cooperation.
On March 8, the president of the IEPF U. Mirzayev met with the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Catalina Devandas Aguilar.
During the meeting, U. Mirzayev informed about the activities of the IEPF and other civil society organizations working with disabled persons, operating in Azerbaijan and the Union of Organizations with Disabilities. He briefly spoke about the work being done by the war invalids represented in the Public Council under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Catalina Aquilar praised U. Mirzayev's proposal to organize a meeting between civil society organizations and persons with disabilities during her visit to Azerbaijan.
At the end of the meeting, the IEPF President congratulated the UN Special Rapporteur on International Women's Day and presented her national gifts.
