Germany has suspended military training operations in Iraq over growing fears of conflict in the Middle East as tensions between the US and Iran escalate.

There are indications forces backed by Iran could launch an attack, the German defence minister said, in an announcement hours after Donald Trump's administration ordered all non-emergency government staff to leave Iraq "as soon as possible".
Washington said last week said it had detected new and urgent threats from Iran and its proxy forces in the region.
