The International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF), non-governmental organization (NGO), based in Azerbaijan, which enjoys General Consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) calls for NGOs to apply for Consultative Status with the UN if they wish to be considered by the NGO Committee in 2019. Those interested should submit their application and required documents on or before the deadline of 1 June 2018, Eurasia Diary informs.
1 June 2019 is the last day for Non-Governmental Organizations to apply for consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), in order to have an opportunity to take part in UN deliberations. ECOSOC consultative status is governed by ECOSOC resolution 1996/31, which outlines the eligibility requirements for consultative status, rights and obligations of NGOs in consultative status, procedures for the withdrawal or suspension of consultative status, the role and functions of the ECOSOC Committee on NGOs, and the responsibilities of the UN Secretariat in supporting the consultative relationship. Consultative status is granted by ECOSOC upon recommendation of the ECOSOC Committee on NGOs, which is composed by Member States.
The IEPF started its cooperation with UN ECOSOC in 2005. In 2007 it got Special Consultative Status, which was reclassified to General in the end of 2013. As for today, IEPF is the only NGOs in Azerbaijan, which is enjoying the General Consultative Status with UN ECOSOC.
IEPF contributes to the United Nations in formulating and implementing its global policies on peace promotion, community development and contribution to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. IEPF attends different sessions of the United Nations every year, reports its activities and research findings. IEPF also holds events and support social development activities to sustain and promote the aims of the United Nations. In partnership with the UN entities, foreign diplomatic missions and various international organizations, the IEPF implements the projects aimed to support the vulnerable groups of the population, specially women and children, to promote gender equality and youth development in accordance with the principles of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.
General Consultative Status, the highest level, which may be granted to organizations that are concerned with most of the activities of the Council, that are making substantive and sustained contributions in many fields, with a considerable membership, and that are broadly representative of major segments of society in a large number of countries.
IEPF President Umud Mirzayev is referring to different NGOs in Azerbaijan to use this opportunity and apply for consultative status of the UN ECOSOC, which will provide a large number of benefits.
