'Azerbaijan has been able to make better condition for IDPs' - UNHCR Representative

UNHCR Representative in Azerbaijan Mr Guido Ambroso attended in the World Refugee Day Event at International Mugham Center in Baku, Azerbaijan.

He emphasized that some of the most vulnerable persons are refugees and IDPs.

"Unfortunately, the UN reported that 70 million people left their home because of war and violence, 26 millions of them  are refugees 41 million are IDPs and 3.5 million people are asylum-seekers."

"While having been in1995-1997, I have seen that a huge percentage of Azerbaijan were IDPs. They were living under low conditions. I remembered very well their sufferings and also their endurance," Mr Ambroso said.

He emphasized that Azerbaijan could eliminate hunger and provide them with shelters with the help of international organizations and NGOs.

"Thanks to the vigorous economic restoration and improvement of government, the conditions of them has become better but they have no opportunity to go their own homes back," UNHCR Representative stated.
