A former chief of the Armenian Police, Hayk Harutyunyan, was found lethally shot in the head on after midnight as a police investigation squad arrived at his private residence in Bjni, Kotayk region, shortly after receiving an emergency report.
A site examination revealed blood-like stains, a firearm and a cartridge at the scene, the Investigative Committee says in a press release.
A firearm injury in the skull area is presumed to have caused Harutyunyan’s death.
The Committee’s regional investigative department has instituted a criminal case based on Section 1, Article 110 of the Criminal Code (Causing Someone to Commit Suicide). A probe into further circumstances is underway.
