Prosecutor seeks life imprisonment for four accused of St. Petersburg metro terror act

A prosecutor on Monday demanded life imprisonment for four main defendants in the St. Petersburg metro terror attack case, RAPSI reports from the courtroom of the First West District Military Court where visiting hearings of the Second West District Military Court are held.
 
Life imprisonment is sought for Abror Azimov, Akram Azimov, Mukhamadyusup Ermatov and Ibragibzhon Ermatov.
 
The prosecutor also asked the court to sentence six other defendants to prison terms ranging from 27 to 28 years in jail. However, she did not call a demanded term for accused Shokhista Karimova because the woman fainted. The hearing was postponed.
 
According to prosecutor Nadezhda Tikhonova, the defendants are members of a criminal group and are charged with participation in a terrorist network, attempt to commit two terrorist attack, illegal arms trafficking, producing, keeping and carriage of explosives.
 
On April 3, 2017, at around 2:40 PM Moscow time, an unknown device exploded in a train between St. Petersburg metro stations Technological Institute and Sennaya Ploshchad. According to the most recent information, 16 people died in the blast, over 50 were wounded.
 
People allegedly involved in the crime were arrested in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
