Contrary to the guarantees of the Turkish president that a ceasefire will be respected in Syria, a few hours ago, the Russian military air base Khmeimim, which is Russia’s largest military base in Syria, was attacked again from territory controlled by Turkish troops, EDNews reports citing Bulgarian Military News.
Russian air defense systems deployed in the area of the Khmeimim air base in Syria shot down two armed drones.
It is reported that armed drones were launched from militant-controlled territory in Idlib province. Air defense systems shot them down over the city of Jebl in Latakia province.
On March 5, the presidents of Russia and Turkey entered into an agreement according to which a ceasefire regime entered into force in the Idlib de-escalation zone. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad later said that if the US and Turkish military did not leave the country, Damascus was ready to use force.
The reason for the Russian-Turkish summit talks was a sharp aggravation of the situation in Idlib, where in January a large-scale attack by the Syrian army against the positions of the armed opposition and terrorists began.
