South Caucasian countries are located near Iran, which is among the top countries for the number of coronavirus cases. It directly affects the spread of the virus in the region.
South Caucasian countries took strict measures for combating coronavirus. One of them is closing the border with Iran, suspending direct flights with China, Iran, and Italy, and increasing the monitoring in the state borders. Another main method is closing the schools, kindergartens, and universities. South Caucasian countries also launched disinfection measures of public places.
Azerbaijan closed the schools until March 26, the same decisions were made by Georgia until 1 April. Armenian authorities have not given any decision, maybe the coronavirus cases in this country are the lowest in the region. On 12 March, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced six coronavirus cases and said that the schools will be closed soon.
According to 12 March statistics, Georgia has 25 coronavirus cases, Azerbaijan has 13 and Armenia has six. Only Azerbaijan has one death case by coronavirus.
