Turkey will continue to fulfil its obligations within NATO in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said this in an interview with the Turkish NTV channel, Azeri Daily reports.
The Turkish leader did not specify what steps Turkey is ready to take and what obligations as a member of the North Atlantic Alliance are in question.
'Now we want to find a solution to the current crisis through dialogue and diplomacy. We continue to urge Russia and Ukraine to behave constructively and with restraint. But Turkey will fulfil the requirements of NATO membership,' said Erdogan.
He added that Turkey has supported the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine from the very beginning. 'We have taken a clear position against Russia's steps to violate the territorial integrity of Ukraine, especially the annexation of Crimea,' said Erdogan.
