The politicization of cooperation on energy has facilitated a food crisis, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said at a session of the UN Security Council on conflicts and food security on Thursday, TASS reports.
According to the Russian envoy, the important factor impacting the global food products situation was the "inflicted abrupt global switch to green energy instead of a thought-through smooth energy transfer as well as the open politicization of energy cooperation by a number of countries."
He noted that lately "gas prices hit record highs" despite of "Russia increasing its supplies." "The significant part of the problem involves speculations at the Western futures markets of food products which also facilitated price hikes on raw materials, including wheat, corn and grain legumes," the Russian diplomat stated.
