Turkiye asks Russia to delay some gas repayments until 2024

World A- A A+

Turkish officials have asked Russia to delay a portion of Ankara’s payments due for natural gas, according to people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg reports.

Turkiye’s state-run energy importer Boru Hatlari ile Petrol Tasima AS, or Botas, is seeking to postpone some of the payments to 2024, Bloomberg's sources said.

It’s not yet clear whether the latest talks will result in any agreement. According to the agency, Turkiye’s heavy reliance on imported energy has added to pressure on its currency and budget.

Turkiye's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez said earlier that the country filled its underground gas reservoirs by 100%.
