The United States Geological Survey (USGS) on Saturday said that the 6.2-magnitude earthquake reported earlier was mistakenly registered and that and event of this magnitude did not occur, Ednews reports.
The tremor was later confirmed as erroneous and manually removed, said the USGS. "The alert was issued because of an error in the automatic processing system," the agency explained.
Earlier, an alert on the website warned about a quake near the Chignik community of Alaska.
