German Chancellor Olaf Scholz underlined on Sunday, at the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) summit, that the decision made by the allies to train Ukrainian pilots in how to operate F-16 fighter jets is a "long-term project" and should send a message to Russia, EDnews informs via Teletrader.
This message is that Moscow "should not count on support for Ukraine decreasing as the war goes on," the chancellor said, adding that peace negotiations should not be focusing on freezing the conflict. He reiterated that Russia must withdraw its troops from the latter's territory.
Earlier, the White House confirmed that Washington supports the training idea. Meanwhile, the Russian side warned the West against providing Ukraine with the F-16 combat aircraft.
