Dutch police said 1,579 people were arrested during climate change protests in The Hague on Saturday. The protest against fossil fuel subsidies in the Netherlands was organized by the Extinction Rebellion group, EDnews informs via Euronews.
Activists blocked the A12 highway in the city center, with the police using water cannons to disperse the crowd. The authorities said 40 people will be prosecuted. No serious injuries were reported either among the police or the protesters.
