Twitter said it plans to start limiting the number of direct messages non-verified users can send.
"We'll soon be implementing some changes in our effort to reduce spam in Direct Messages. Unverified accounts will have daily limits on the number of DMs they can send," Twitter Support tweeted but did not specify what the exact limit will be.
Earlier this month, Twitter introduced limits on the number of tweets each user can view, with the number being ten times larger for verified users. The company's owner Elon Musk claimed the measures are temporary and are aimed at tackling excessive data scraping and system manipulation.
