Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to visit Washington "later this month" to try to mend strained relations and to prepare an "unscheduled meeting" between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his United States counterpart Joe Biden, the Foreign Policy news agency reported on Tuesday citing "three US and East Asian diplomats."
According to the media outlet, the Biden administration officials are planning a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to ease tensions between the two countries amid trade, technology, military, and human rights issues. The visit is part of a series of high-level visits to maintain communication and hash out an agenda for the Biden-Xi meeting.
Previously, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said "positive interactions" with the US were "in the common interests of both sides."
