Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo announced on Tuesday that Finland will reopen two border crossings with Russia after deciding to close all but one in November citing an increase in the influx of asylum seekers coming from Russia.
The Vaalimaa and Niirala border crossings will be reopened from Thursday until January 14. Orpo argued that opening the crossings is the only means of verifying whether the situation has improved. He added Finland is prepared to quickly close them again if the number of migrants does not decrease.
