Elon Musk, the head of Tesla and SpaceX, once again finds himself atop the list of the world's richest people, business magazine Hurun, the Chinese equivalent of Forbes, reported on March 25 on its website, Ednews informs referring to TASS.
According to Hurun, the billionaire's wealth grew by 47% over the year, reaching $235 billion. Coming in second place is Amazon owner and CEO Jeff Bezos with a fortune of $187 billion. In third place is Bernard Arnault, Chairman of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE, with an estimated net worth of around $177 billion.
The richest person in China, just like last year, is the owner of the Nongfu bottled water company, Zhong Shanshan, with a fortune of 450 billion yuan ($62 billion). Globally, the Chinese billionaire ranks 21st.
According to the publication, there are currently 3,279 dollar billionaires in the world, 167 more than last year, as their fortunes grew by 9% to $15 trillion. The majority of billionaires reside in China - 814. The United States ranks second with 800 billionaires according to the publication, and India ranks third with 271.
Hurun cited the finance, consumer products, food and beverage, and real estate industries as the main wealth generators for billionaires over the past year.
