In a landmark initiative, the TV and Radio Complex of the President of Kazakhstan has joined hands with Al Jazeera, the renowned Qatari media network, fostering a new era of media cooperation. The collaboration, part of the Al Jazeera Week in Astana, signifies a significant step towards enhancing journalistic practices and promoting cultural exchange between the two nations.
During the Al Jazeera Week festivities, leaders from the Qatari media powerhouse engaged with the staff of Kazakhstan's largest media holding, exploring the daily operations of key outlets such as Jibek Joly, Silk Way, and Silk Way Cinema TV channels, along with the Kazinform International News Agency and the Documentary Films Center.
A focal point of the discussions was the ongoing Al Jazeera Week at the MNU International School of Journalism, a collaborative effort between the TV and Radio Complex of the President and Al Jazeera Media Network. Dr. Mostefa Souaf, Director General of Al Jazeera Media Network, underscored the significance of the event, which included a weeklong training session for Kazakhstani students and journalists on contemporary media issues.
Reflecting on the event, Dr. Mostefa Souaf praised the enthusiasm of participants and commended Kazakhstan's commitment to journalistic standards and global trends. He also lauded the natural beauty and tourism potential of the country.
The collaboration between the TV and Radio Complex of the President and Al Jazeera stems from a Memorandum of Understanding inked during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's visit to Qatar in February 2024. According to Raushan Kazhibayeva, Director of the TV and Radio Complex of the President, joint projects aim to foster cooperation in education and mass media, enabling audiences in both countries to gain deeper insights into different regions and empowering journalists with contemporary skills.
The Al Jazeera Week offered participants over 100 hours of comprehensive training in various aspects of journalism, marking the first such workshop not only in Kazakhstan but also in the broader Central Asian region. At the conclusion of the week, students will present their projects and receive certifications from the Al Jazeera Media Institute, signaling a new chapter in media collaboration and professional development.
