Former Minister of Economy of Kazakhstan Kuandyk Bishimbayev has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for the murder of his common-law wife Saltanat Nukenova, Ednews informs referring to Kazakh media.
Bishimbayev was found guilty under two articles of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan: murder, unlawful intentional causing the death of another person, committed with extreme cruelty (from 15 to 20 years or a life sentence); infliction of physical and mental suffering through systematic beatings or other violent acts committed against a person who is financially dependent on the perpetrator (restriction of freedom for a term of four to seven years or imprisonment for the same term).
He was detained on November 9, 2023, along with a relative and the director of the restaurant where the murder took place.
His cousin, director of the Gastro Center Bakhytzhan Baizhanov, was sentenced to four years in prison in a medium security institution.
