Tajikistan's upper house of parliament has adopted a law banning the hijab, according to a report by Ednews referencing "Ozodi" publication. The law, passed on June 19, is part of amendments to the "Law on Regulation of Traditions and Ceremonies."
The new legislation prohibits the import, sale, and public wearing of "clothing alien to the national clothing culture." This move has generated significant reaction within Tajik society.
Additionally, the amendments include a ban on the transportation of children during the days of Ramadan and Eid al-Adha, known locally as "idgardei."
