The number of foreign tourists visiting Turkey from the beginning of 2016, was reduced by 31.96% compared to the same period last year, according to a report published by the Ministry of tourism of Turkey.
According to the report, the number of foreign tourists who visited Turkey in the first nine months of 2016, made up of 20.25 million, almost ten million less than in 2015 (29, 76 million).
The study showed that the number of tourists is reduced by more than 30% per month, starting in may. The largest decrease of tourist flow was registered in June (40, 86%) and in August (37,96%).
As for the Russians, their number decreased by 60% in September and amounted to 7% of the total.
Tourists from Germany, great Britain and Georgia have become leaders in the number among foreigners in September. However, their number also decreased by about a third compared to last year.
The number of travellers choosing Turkey as their destination, began to decline in April 2015. The most significant changes have been identified since the beginning of this year, when the number of foreigners was reduced by more than 10%.
Most of the “victims” of the cities were Antalya (31,76 %), Istanbul (28, 08%) and Mugla (9,59%).
According to the newspaper Hurriyet, a significant decline in tourist flow to Turkey due to a number of terrorist attacks in the country, a failed coup attempt and the deterioration of relations with Russia.
