On December 18-19, the 11th meeting of the Islamic World Heritage Committee (IWHC) operating under the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - ICESCO was held in Rabat, the capital of Morocco, the decision of the committee members, the following 10 examples of intangible cultural heritage reflecting the rich culture of our country were included in the Islamic World Heritage List, Ednews reports.
1. Yalli traditional group dances of Nakhchivan;
2. The tradition of making and sharing stuffing, an indicator of cultural identity;
3. Wrestling culture, traditional zorkhana games, sports and wrestling;
4. Mugham of Azerbaijan;
5. Lahij copper art;
6. Chovken - traditional Karabakh horse game;
7. Azerbaijani love art;
8. The traditional art of making and wearing Kalagai and its symbolism;
9. The art of tar performance and the mastery of its preparation;
10. Traditional art of carpet weaving in Azerbaijan.
On December 19, at the headquarters of ICESCO, in a ceremony attended by Moroccan officials, diplomatic missions of the organization's member countries, and members of the Islamic World Heritage Committee, a certificate confirming the inclusion of the mentioned elements into the Islamic World Heritage List based on the nomination files prepared by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan was presented by the head of ICESCO was presented by its director Salim al-Malik to Nazim Samadov, the permanent representative of Azerbaijan in this institution. With the said decision of the Islamic World Heritage Committee, the important value of these intangible cultural heritage elements belonging to the Azerbaijani people was emphasized and the importance of protecting, preserving and ensuring the continuity of the cultural heritage was demonstrated. It should be noted that in the cooperation with ICESCO, of which Azerbaijan is a member, the topic of cultural heritage protection occupies one of the important places.
It should be noted that in 2019, the Old City (together with the Maiden's Castle and the Shirvanshahs palace complex), the historical center of Shaki (together with the Khan's palace) and Gobustan rock paintings from Azerbaijan were included in the Islamic World Heritage List.
With this, the number of examples of cultural heritage in the Islamic World Heritage List of Azerbaijan has reached 13.
