As we all know, the "COP29" event will be held in November 2024 to discuss climate issues in Azerbaijan. According to the information provided, more than 70,000 guests are expected to arrive in Baku.
Is the infrastructure of Azerbaijan ready for this event?
Economist expert Natig Jafarli said in his statement to Ednews that the lack of places for guests to stay can cause problems:
"The "COP29" event is one of the most interesting and watched events in the world. About 100,000 guests are expected to come to Baku. Of course, this will put a huge burden on Baku's infrastructure. There are about 10,000 beds in hotels in Baku alone. Basically, we are talking about middle and high-class hotels here. I don't think there is enough capacity for so many guests. The same issue can be applied to the transport infrastructure. We have repeatedly witnessed the closure of the city center and traffic jams during major events in Baku. But of course there is time. This is a serious challenge and commitment to the government of Azerbaijan. In order to solve this problem, especially the organization of routes, new roads and lanes, etc., are important. Since we have some experience during the European Games, this is a possible solution. The main obstacle here is the accommodation of the guests. Most likely, a certain opportunity opens up for the population itself. International house rental sites are available. From now on, I would advise that whoever has the opportunity, if they have an empty house, they can rent it from the middle of November to the beginning of December. Based on this, it would be better if citizens organize their holidays on the basis of this event next year. Although as a result, along with the many opportunities it will bring to the country, it is necessary to find a golden balance in order to avoid difficulties for the population."
Member of the Azerbaijan Parliament Vahid Ahmadov said that, except for the importance of the event, all conditions exist for holding this event in the country:
"Such large-scale events have been held plenty of times in Azerbaijan. For example, Armenia was among the countries that voted in favor of Azerbaijan. Because our country has all the necessary conditions to hold the event. Security issues are resolved, tourist services and hotel availability are sufficient. The issues that I have listed are necessary for holding such events. During the event, certain contributions can be made for the development of a number of existing relationships. Holding this event is important for Azerbaijan and our country is ready for it."
