Members of the Political and Security Committee of the Council of the European Union (EU) are set to embark on a visit to Armenia. The purpose behind this visit, as reported, is to gain insights into the ongoing processes within the region and to delve into the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace process.
Former US ambassador to Azerbaijan, Matthew Bryza, in an exclusive statement to Ednews, highlighted the EU's pivotal role in fostering peace in the South Caucasus amidst differing approaches from various European leaders:
"The Political and Security Committee of the Council of the European Union is steadfast in its mission to support Armenia and facilitate the normalization of relations with Azerbaijan. The EU has been proactive in advancing dialogue between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan, with a focus on expediting negotiations and proposing frameworks for recognizing and delineating international borders. Particularly significant are the meetings between President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and both President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
Moreover, diplomatic efforts spearheaded by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Minister of Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock have yielded constructive dialogue between Azerbaijan and Armenia, effectively countering any disruptive rhetoric from French President Emmanuel Macron."
