By order of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Germany, the German language version of the film "On the Far Shores" was digitized and restored in Berlin.
According to the information provided to "EDnews" by the embassy, the image and sound quality of the film have been significantly improved.
It should be noted that the film "On the Far Shores" was dubbed into German by the German DEFA studio in Berlin in 1959 and screened under the title "Damals in Triest". As a result of the embassy's work with studio and archives, the German language version of the film was discovered and restored in high quality by a company engaged in the restoration of classic films in Berlin.
The restored version of the film was screened on April 23 at the cinema of the famous "Urania" science center in Berlin, organized by the embassy. The screening was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism in World War II. The event was attended by representatives of German state institutions, ambassadors of various countries, scientists and cultural figures, film critics, journalists, as well as members of Azerbaijani, Turkish and other friendly communities living in Germany.
In his speech, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Germany Nasimi Aghayev emphasized that the film “On the Distant Shores” reflects the determination, selflessness and unshakable will of the heroic partisan Mehdi Huseynzade and his native Azerbaijan. He noted that M. Huseynzade, in addition to being a selfless fighter, is a symbol of international solidarity, heroism fighting against fascism far from his homeland, and that he gave his life for these causes.
Speaking about the significant contributions of Azerbaijan to the historic victory over fascism, the ambassador said that approximately 700 thousand Azerbaijanis went to war, more than 300 thousand of them died. More than 170 thousand soldiers and officers were awarded various orders and medals, including 130 people with the title of “Hero of the Soviet Union”. It was noted that the national rifle divisions, consisting of Azerbaijani conscripts and volunteers, passed an honorable battle path from the Caucasus to Berlin.
N. Aghayev specifically noted that Azerbaijan participated in the fight against fascism not only with human resources, but also with rich energy reserves and played a decisive role in achieving victory.
