The World Bank (WB) has provided the Government of Azerbaijan with a grant of up to $2 million to prepare the Livable Baku project to improve the quality of the urban environment, disaster resilience, and climate risks of infrastructure in Baku, EDnews reports, citing the WB.
The funds were provided by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (a structural division of the WB). The grant is provided for the preparation of a feasibility study, a study on the reclamation of polluted natural lakes, cleaning up oil-contaminated areas, and the design of solid waste management facilities (landfills, waste transfer stations).
As part of the preparation for the project, an environmental impact assessment must also be carried out. The grant covers consulting, training, operating costs, and provides for financing 100% of eligible costs, including taxes.
The technical assistance is valid until December 31, 2026. The project is being implemented by Azerbaijan's Economy Ministry.
