After the Russia-Ukraine war, Turkey became Russia's largest importer in the fields of energy and light industry. Turkey has further valued its role as an "energy line" by maintaining relations with Russia.
"The era of Turkey doing everything Europe says is over. "Turkey is not dependent on Europe at all."
Ismayil Cingöz, the Turkish political scientist, stated to Ednews.
"Since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, unlike the Western countries, Turkey has preferred to maintain its neutrality. Turkey is the only country that has increased its trade balance with Russia, especially after the war. Turkey serves as a bridge the gap by importing Russian energy resources and transferring them to Europe. Moscow even said that after the attack on the "Northern Pipeline" in the Baltic Sea, Turkey is the only way to deliver energy to the West.
Other countries that continue this economic strategy are India and China. These countries, including Turkey, meet their own energy needs and also export natural gas to third world countries".
The expert said that European countries cannot take any measures against Turkey, as their energy supply directly depends on Ankara-Moscow relations.
"Although Turkey’s ongoing economic relations with Russia have been criticized by the United States and European countries, Ankara will continue to pursue this policy. In fact, this situation primarily benefits the European countries. Many of them import inexpensive gas from Russia through Turkey.
European states cannot react against Turkey in any way. Because, currently, there seems not to be any unity and equality in Europe. Europe's supply of high-priced gas from the United States has undermined their economy. Moreover, the population of Europe does not compromise on this issue. Europe depends on Turkey in the energy issue. Therefore, it is not expected that any Western country will take action against Turkey."
