US President Donald Trump proposed expansion of NATO but in a new format. He suggested to include Middle East countries into membership which he called NATO plus ME (Middle East).
In an unrelated event at the White House on Thursday, Trump discussed his phone call the day before with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg
“I think that NATO should be expanded, and we should include the Middle East. Absolutely,” Trump said.
Trump considers that the new expansion of NATO should be involved against ISIS.
“So, I have actually said that I think the scope of NATO should be increased. And they should be looking for ISIS,“ Trump expressed his opinion.
Trump thinks the US bears a huge part of the burden and it is not fair.
“We will help. But right now the burden is on us, and that has not been fair.”
Trump seems very happy with the new name of NATO. “You call it NATO-ME. What a beautiful name. I'm good at names,” US President said.
