Twenty-five years pass since the terrorist attack committed by the Armenian special services in the Baku Metro, ONA reports.
The terrorist attack was carried out at 13:00 local time, on March 19, 1994 in the January 20 station of the Baku Metro. The time bomb planted in the head car detonated when the train stopped at the station, killing the immediate perpetrator.
Fourteen people were killed in the attack and 49 were wounded. People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Rafig Babayev was among those killed.
Investigations and trials proved that the terror attack was organized by the Armenian special services and was executed by the separatist Sadval organization.
Thirty Sadval members, charged with organizing the explosion in the January 20 metro station, who underwent special terrorist and sabotage training in Armenia, were brought to criminal responsibility.
Same year – on July 3, 1994 – another explosion was staged in a train between the 28 May and Ganjlik stations.
The explosion killed 13 and wounded 42.
Azerbaijan’s law enforcement agencies revealed that this attack also was organized by the Armenian special services.
The biggest loss of human life in the Baku Metro happened on October 28, 1995, when 289 people died in the train fire in the tunnel between the Ulduz and Narimanov stations, while 270 people were injured.
