A special reportage highlighting the pervasive threat of landmines in Azerbaijan and other nations was recently aired on the "Euronews" TV channel, Ednews reports.

The segment delved into the global issue of landmines, emphasizing the urgent need for concerted efforts from the international community to address this difficult challenge. Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Management Board of the Mine Action Agency of The Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA), stressed the importance of collective action in combatting the menace of landmines.

In commemoration of the International Awareness Day on mine danger and aid issues, a charity football match among amputees was held at the Olympic Stadium in Baku, as reported by Ednews. The event aimed to raise awareness about the dangers posed by landmines and underscore the importance of adhering to safety protocols. Many of the participants in the match had been tragically injured by landmines.

Sanan Hajiyev, an amputee football player, emphasized the significance of advocating for mine safety and urged individuals to exercise caution when navigating areas potentially affected by landmines.

Despite the prevalence of landmines primarily in Africa, the report highlighted that Europe, including Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Ukraine, also grapples with significant landmine contamination. Approximately one-third of the territories in these countries are affected by landmines.

Charitable organizations were urged to intensify their efforts globally in addressing the landmine crisis and mitigating its devastating impact on communities worldwide.
