On July 8, the second training session of the project “Supporting the Enhancement of Azerbaijani NGOs’ Representation at the UN,” implemented by the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) with the support of the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was held in Baku.
The session took place at IEPF’s head office and brought together 23 representatives from various local NGOs. Over the course of nearly three hours, human rights expert and trainer Sahib Mammadov delivered an engaging presentation titled “An Overview of the International Human Rights System.”
The aim of the project is clear and ambitious: to strengthen the voice of Azerbaijani civil society on the international stage. By helping local NGOs understand the inner workings of the United Nations — particularly its treaty bodies and charter-based mechanisms — the project also supports their path toward obtaining consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Participants are being trained to prepare international reports across different thematic areas and to navigate the procedures that shape global advocacy.
In total, 12 sessions are planned, running until the end of August. At the conclusion of the program, those who complete the full course will be awarded certificates recognizing their participation and progress.
With this initiative, Azerbaijani NGOs are taking meaningful steps toward becoming more active, informed, and visible in the international arena — where their perspectives and contributions are needed more than ever.
