On May 10, 2024, the prestigious "2024 World Food Prize Laureate Announcing Ceremony" took place at the US State Department, marking a momentous occasion in the global fight against hunger and food security.
Ednews has learned that a distinguished array of guests attended the event, including US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Heidi Kühn, the esteemed founder and leader of "Roots of Peace" organization, a valued partner of the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF), former laureates, dignitaries, scholars, and Azerbaijan's ambassador to the US, Khazar Ibrahim.
Secretary Blinken, presiding over the ceremony, underscored the significance of the World Food Prize, honoring individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to combatting hunger and enhancing food security worldwide. He lauded the vital role of the prize in addressing one of the most pressing challenges of the modern era.
In a tribute, Secretary Blinken commended Heidi Kühn for her remarkable contributions to humanity, acknowledging her transformative efforts in turning war-torn lands into fertile grounds for peace:
"Thank you for transforming landscapes scarred by conflict into flourishing gardens of peace. Your tireless dedication stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration."
Ambassador Khazar Ibrahim, offering insights during the proceedings, on his "X" account, highlighted the paramount importance of food security on Azerbaijan's agenda. He expressed gratitude to Heidi Kühn for her instrumental role in demining initiatives and her steadfast support for agricultural recovery efforts in Azerbaijan:
"Pleased to listen to Secretary Blinken & partners at 2024 World Food Prize Laureate Announcement event at the State Department. Food security is a crucial item in the climate agenda of Azerbaijan. Thanks to Heidi Kühn for her contributions to demining activities in Azerbaijan, and restoring land for agriculture to farmers. We look forward to continuing cooperation in the field, with our partners in the United States."
The World Food Prize, established by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Norman Borlaug, stands as a beacon of hope in the ongoing battle against hunger and malnutrition worldwide. Notably, Heidi Kühn, last year's laureate, participated in a similar event remotely from Azerbaijan, where she was visiting at the invitation of IEPF and with the support of the Mine Action Agency of The Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA).
It is worth recalling that Heidi Kühn, in her two visits to Azerbaijan alongside her partners, has been steadfast in raising awareness about the challenges posed by landmines in the liberated territories of the country. Under the banner of "Mines to Vines," her mission aims to eliminate landmines from affected areas and support the transformation of farmland for sustainable development and enduring peace.
