European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reiterated on Wednesday that both the European Union and the United Kingdom want Russia's aggression on Ukraine to fail in order for peace to be restored to the continent, Ednews informs citing Euronews.
"The peace is precious, and it shouldn't be taken for granted," Von der Leyen insisted on the third day of the Agreement 25 conference at Queen's University in Belfast. The event marked 25 years of the Good Friday Agreement, which ended years of violence in the region, and comes after Brussels and London reached the post-Brexit legal agreement known as the Windsor Framework in late February.
Commenting on the deal, Von der Leyen said that it represents a "new beginning for old friends," as well as providing an opportunity to set sight on the future partnership between the EU and the UK.
