The United Kingdom prepared for the country's first coronation in the last 70 years scheduled to take place on Saturday morning, with King Charles III and the Queen Consort setting themselves for a historic ride to Westminster Abbey, Ednews informs via Daily Mail.
King Charles will be crowned by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby at 11:00 am GMT in central London, after which he will travel to Buckingham Palace for the Royal Salute from the armed forces. The coronation, estimated to cost up to £100 million, will be marked with three days of celebrations culminating in a public holiday on May 8.
Charles became king of the UK and 14 other Commonwealth realms in September 2022, following the death of his mother Elizabeth who spent 70 years on the throne and set a new record as the longest-reigning monarch in British history. The new king will be 74 years old at the time of the coronation.
