15 people died of alcohol poisoning in Iran. The number of deaths due to alcohol poisoning is increasing in the country. Iran’s state media reported this information on Wednesday, Ednews reports citing Postsen.
Chief Justice of Alborz Province Hossain Fazeli Harikandi told the state news agency IRNA, ’15 people have died and 180 people have been poisoned so far in this incident. The victims have been admitted to the hospital.
Hossain Fazeli Harikandi said, ‘Most of those who have been admitted to the hospital have been released. But some of them have lost their eyesight. Some of them have kidney damage and they have to undergo dialysis.
After the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, the production and consumption of alcoholic beverages was banned. And since then smuggling and black market of unregulated alcohol spread in the country. Methanol is often added to beverages as a cheaper alternative to ethanol.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Forensic Agency said 644 people had died from consuming ‘fake alcoholic beverages’ up to March this year, a 30 percent increase over the previous 12 months.
