Romanian President Klaus Iohannis (pictured) in a press conference after a NATO meeting on Tuesday said that he believes the alliance should assist Moldova in building resilience, due to what he believes to be a concerning situation in the country, TASS news agency reported.
"The Republic of Moldova is of great concern to me, and as I learned today, not only for me, but for all of us," the head of state was cited as saying. Iohannis reportedly also expressed hope that these concerns would be reflected in the conclusions of the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu previously said she would not be opposed to her country joining NATO in the wake of the Ukraine conflict and that such a decision should be made in a referendum.
