Russian Army General and Commander of the Aerospace Forces Sergey Surovikin (pictured) has been arrested, The Moscow Times reported on Wednesday, citing two unnamed sources close to the Russian Defense Ministry.
The arrest was reportedly carried out in connection with the failed mutiny by the Wagner Group private military and its leader Yevgeny Prigozhin. According to the report, Surovikin has not been seen in public since Saturday, June 24, when he called on Wagner to withdraw from Russia.
Surovikin was the military leader of Russian forces in Ukraine from October 2022 to January 2023. He was replaced by Army General Valery Gerasimov, who was often a target of fierce criticism by Prigozhin.
